Dear Friends of Enhancement:
Enhancement has had a very exciting year working to improve the quality of life for breast cancer survivors. We have divided our work into two categories: providing education to the people who treat breast cancer and offering direct assistance to survivors.
In the first category, we are working to educate doctors about the diagnosis and treatment of lymphedema, a painful accumulation of fluid that occurs in many breast cancer survivors. This is an area that affects their quality of life, yet many doctors are still unfamiliar with the symptoms. We have been asked to partner with the National Lymphedema Network to host educational seminars and are now offering complete 1-day conferences at hospitals nationwide. Our next conference will be in Detroit in May of 2007.
To address the needs of the survivors, we are involved in some exciting projects. We are spearheading the creation of a new Cancer Resource Center for the Central Coast, due to open by the end of next year. We are also creating a fund for breast cancer survivors who can’t afford prostheses or treatment supplies for lymphedema.
In 2006, our first pilot Creative Healing Retreat for Breast Cancer Survivors was a huge success. We intend to hold two more in 2007, with the goal of going national with them in 2008. And, Enhancement continues to distribute and promote Focus on Healing through Movement and Dance, the video and DVD that we produced with Sherry Lebed Davis.
To carry on these increased activities requires additional office assistance and equipment. We hope you will help us raise $25,000 by December 31.
