Shoosh has a BA in Psychology from UCLA, an MS in Diagnostic Education from Florida International University, and has taken classes toward a doctorate in Therapeutic Exercise. She has also been a yoga therapist and instructor for more than 30 years, receiving the title of Yoga Siromani, "Crest Jewel of Yoga" for her work in promoting yoga.
Shoosh taught yoga at UCLA and in 1988 made her first video, called "Continuing Yoga, at Home with Shoosh", which is still popular with her students. In 1990 she began working with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and created a yoga-based exercise program for MS clients, and was asked to make it into a video. When the funds ran out from the MS Society, she formed her own company, called Mobility Limited in 1994, and with director, Thomas Walters, produced YOGA for MS and RELATED CONDITIONS (previously titled, "Pathways Exercise Video for People with Limited Mobility"). This video received many acclaims, such as the Outstanding Achievement Award from the MS Society, Channel Islands Chapter, as well as 5 stars from Consumers Digest, and high praise in both Inside MS and the Yoga Journal, to name a few.
The Arthritis Foundation saw this video and asked Shoosh if she would write and produce one for them. In 1996, "YOGA FOR ARTHRITIS: Pathways to Better Living with Arthritis and Related Conditions" was completed in partnership with the Arthritis Foundation; the Spanish version was finished in 1997. This tape also received 5 stars from Consumers Digest, and has been used in hospitals and homes all over this and Spanish-speaking countries.
In 1998, Shoosh founded and remains Executive Director of the nonprofit company, Enhancement, Inc., whose purpose is to produce and distribute videos and other information in the field of health and wellness with an emphasis on improving the quality of life for breast cancer survivors. Its first video project was "Focus on Healing through Movement & Dance for the Breast Cancer Survivor", completed in September of 1998. This program is now used in more than 350 hospitals, including Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York.
Shoosh lives in Morro Bay, California with her husband Colby.
